Police are searching for a missing Northern Irish man who did not catch his flight from Edinburgh back to Belfast.

James Reid, 27, was in the city for work and was supposed to leave on Wednesday evening but did not return to his hotel.

He was last seen in St Mary’s Street in Edinburgh at around 3pm on Wednesday.

Mr Reid has not made contact with friends or family and police said concern is growing for his welfare.

Officers urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact them.

Sergeant Kris Harvey from Gayfield Police Station said: “James is in Edinburgh for work and was supposed to leave on Wednesday evening, but didn’t return to his hotel or catch his flight back to Belfast.

“At this time it is unknown where he is or how well he knows the city and so we’re keen to trace him as soon as possible.

“Anyone who believes they know where we can find him should contact police immediately.

“In addition, we would also urge James to get in touch and let us know he is safe.”

Mr Reid is described as white with a skinny build, 5ft 6ins tall, with brown hair and a beard.

When last seen he was wearing a dark grey top, dark blue jeans and black shoes with distinctive white markings.
